Young Woman Competition

Participating in Walgett Show Society’s Young Woman Competition presents opportunities to all entrants and is the start of another journey for the selected representative.

 

Previously known as the Showgirl competition, this program has been running for over 60 years.   The initiative involves a local Walgett Show Society Young Woman program, with a representative selected from entrants from across Walgett Shire.  Walgett Show Society's Young Woman then participates in the Zone 4 Final, from which typically two finalists are selected to progress to the State Final at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. 

 

From the first Walgett Show Society Showgirl in 1964, there have seen 46 Showgirls and Young Woman representatives, with ten selected at Zone level to be State Finalists.  Since 2009, we have seen Brianna specially invited to speak at the Royal Easter Show and Sarah and Sally (who both placed 2nd), Lizzy and Emily (who won the Announcer’s Scholarship) represent Zone 4 (and Walgett Shire - our Show district) at the State Final.
